La E 11 e la E 42 della Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) erano l'equivalente della E 10 e della E 40 DB. La E 11, a rapporti lunghi (120 Km/h) e realizzata in 96 esemplari dal 1961 al 1963, era destinata al trasporto passeggeri espresso. La E 42, a rapporti corti (100 Km/h) e realizzata in 292 esemplari dal 1963 al 1976, era destinata al trasporto passeggeri e al trasporto merci. Entrambe furono prodotte da Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke „Hans Beimler“ Hennigsdorf (LEW). |

Nei primi anni '60, la Germania dell'Est ha replicato tipologie di locomotive realizzate ad Ovest negli anni '50, con l'attenzione di non utilizzare la stessa numerazione nelle classificazioni e, come in questo caso, applicandola anche in modo progressivo. Fatto curioso. |
